Fryeburg Fair

Kate Says:
What better place to take pictures than the Fryeburg Fair--well, yes, your wedding, but I mean when we're not booked! We took a mini-vacation up to my friends Jenn and Oen's house in West Paris, Maine, this past Sunday-Tuesday. We took the baby, of course, and we had a ton of fun! If you don't believe me, ask this bull-->

I hear that it is the largest fair in New England, it sure as though felt as if it were! We did all the typical fair things, the minute we got there we had fried dough...then we had fresh squeezed lemonade. We went to the stand where Jenn's friend Sarah was working and had a slice of "Maine's Best Pizza," and then felt utterly disgusting. Speaking of utters...there were over 4,000 animals at this fair! I mean, I have never seen so many working horses, sheep, goats, pigs (there was a momma pig with nine little babies--Hi, Wilbur!), chickens, ducks...the list goes on, and my friend Jenn has ALWAYS been into animals. At one point she said, "Let's go and see the horses in THAT building..." and I said, "We've already SEEN three buildings full of horses..." I was particularly fond of the house that was full of Llamas and Alpacas...I just find them really cute! I read that they hum to their young, that is awesome! I also read that they only spit at each other...so I took of my rain gear.

There was also a great competition going on with these men who could do all kinds of wonderful things with wood. The first competition that we saw was where they stand on a hug hunk of wood--probably 10 different men--and they race to see who can chop through it fastest. Oen said, "Why don't they wear steel toed boots?" and there just so happened to be a judge sitting nearby who said, "It's messier if there is an accident...better to just chop it off clean." Disturbing.

The Chain Saw Competition

Emmie thinks that is funny!
